Many moms-to-be find out they are pregnant around this time due to missing a period and perhaps experiencing a few symptoms here and there. Finding out that you are pregnant can be both very exciting! The anticipation to meet your little one seems to be such a long time from now. Don’t worry! Time will fly fast and before you know it, you will be sending your kid off to college! Just kidding!

Your baby is the size of an apple seed. At 5 weeks pregnant, your embryo measures about 0.13 inches from top to bottom. Vital organs such as the heart and circulatory system are taking shape. Heartbeat begins to beat and might be detectable on ultrasound. Cells are multiplying fast and by next week your baby will double in size.

At 5 weeks pregnant, the symptoms you start to feel are just the beginning. Your body is about to go through a significant amount of changes. Relax, what is happening now will not be your entire pregnancy. Ultimately, many moms feel that the first trimester is the toughest. Luckily, it’s nice to get the tough part of your pregnancy out of the way early. Meanwhile, take good care of yourself, get plenty of rest and find ways to feel better about yourself. If you are wondering what are the symptoms foretasted at 5 weeks, here are the most common symptoms:
- Morning Sickness: Inaccurately named, nausea in your early pregnancy can happen at any minute of the day. Some pregnant women unfortunately will feel nausea and queasy throughout the day while others may feel it at certain times of the day. Some women may experience nausea or vomiting as early as 4 weeks while others at around 6 weeks of pregnancy. Don’t worry, for most mom-to-bes, nausea and vomiting will ease up towards the end of the 1st trimester. Try different remedies that help you alleviate your morning sickness. While one strategy may work for one, it does not work for another woman in her first trimester.
- Aching and sore breasts: Another one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. Your body is producing increased hormone levels to boost blood flow. This can make your breasts feel swollen and sore.
- Bloating: It could be possible that your belly may start to look and feel a little bloated.
- Fatigue and Tiredness: Your body is working hard to create a nourishing environment for your baby and that requires a high dose of raging hormones. This comes with a caveat, you feel even more exhausted and wiped out. Don’t feel guilty about taking an extra nap here and there. Make sure to nourish your body with healthy food and exercise.
- Frequent Bathroom Breaks: At five weeks pregnant, you can experience the need to pee more frequently than ever before. This is because your kidneys are growing bigger to process more fluids! It is important to plan your day in advance for an outing with your significant other or loved ones. Not having a toilet nearby is no fun and being a passenger in anyone’s car when you got to go isn’t either. If frequent bathroom breaks are becoming a habit in the middle of the night, try to drink water an hour or two before you go to sleep.
- Cramping: If you feel cramping at around 4 or 5 weeks, it may be a sign that the implantation of embryos in your uterus lining was successful! IT could also be a sign of your expanding uterus and ligaments stretching. However, if you feel cramping that is too severe, call your doctor to get checked out.
- Spotting: This could happen at 5 weeks pregnant, which is a sign of implantation. It is completely normal, however if you have more bleeding or if you are concerned – call the doctor.
Self Care Tips at 5 weeks pregnant
- Exercise: With your doctor’s permission, you can continue to exercise as you had done before or start a new exercise plan.
- Hydrate: Drink enough fluids to avoid becoming dehydrated. Milk and 100% fruit juices also count as fluid intake.
- Eat Healthy: Eating a healthy balance diet is crucial to creating make sure you and baby are well nourished. Don’t be concerned about any weight gain, every pregnancy is different.
- Resting: At 5 weeks pregnant, you should rest as much as possible. If you have kiddos at home, don’t hesitate to contact your close friends or family to help watch them. If you need to give your kids screen time in order to rest, by all means, do that. A healthy, well rested momma is more important than a momma who is overtired and exhausted.

- Take a pregnancy test if you haven’t already.
- Avoid Alcohol, Smoking(including second-hand smoke), and recreational drugs
- Decrease Caffeine intake or drink decaf
- Avoid Junk Foods
- Keep Away from Pregnancy Dangers

- Drinking Alcohol

- Schedule your first prenatal visit (usually between week 6 and 8 of your pregnancy)
- Schedule a visit to the dentist. Hormonal changes can cause gum inflammation.
