Finding the best baby stroller for your baby can be overwhelming. When you walk down the baby department’s stroller aisle, there are so many to choose from!

Stroller is one of the essential that a new mother would need to navigate life with a baby. Finding the best baby stroller that fits your growing family’s needs is important.

As a first time mom, I had gotten a travel system stroller as a baby shower gift from my mom, however, I did not realize how much features I wish the stroller would have had to make my life easier. The EvenFlo Travel System, may have worked for another, however it was very difficult for me to manage due to my petite stature. I hope in writing this guide, you will find the best stroller that fits your family.

Ask yourself, do you need a stroller?

Many use strollers all to do their normal every day tasks, such as running, shopping, or taking a stroll in the neighborhood.

Having a stroller, also helps a fussy baby fall asleep.

Some may prefer to wear their baby out and wait to buy a stroller until a later point when the baby is more older. My husband and I’ve used the stroller very sparingly in first few months of our daughter’s life. We were extremely busy and as a work-at-home mom, I may have used the stroller mostly at home to help calm my baby than I had done outside.

The weight of the stroller actually made it difficult for me to drag it down the stairs so I had preferred to carry my little one outside to walk to the local stores or run errands. When we started using the stroller more often, for trips to the grandparents house or to the zoo or the mall, my daughter loved the stroller.

Depending on where you live, how you plan to raise your baby, a stroller can be a lifesaver.

You may want to ask yourself the following questions when you look into purchasing a stroller:

What is your budget?

Setting a budget helps you narrow down your choices.  Strollers can range from $60 to about $1200 for luxury strollers.

When and where do you plan to use the stroller?

  • Jogging
  • Frequent walks in the neighborhood
  • Shopping
  • Running Errands
  • Frequent travels
  • Hiking
  • Frequently Use Mass Transit
  • Unpaved surfaces (eg. bricks, sand, gravel)

Where do you currently live?

Do you live in a 10 story building, or do you have a garage at ground level where you can roll your stroller right out of?  Do you have an elevator or is it stairs only? Will you carry the stroller up or down the stairs,? Will you be loading the stroller into the car often? Think about how you will navigate with the stroller from your home to the outdoors.

Do you want a stroller for your newborn or prefer to use it when baby is 6 months or older?

Most strollers have a certain minimum age and weight requirements. Will you be using a stroller for your newborn or will you wear you baby for some time before transitioning your baby to the stroller? For some families, using a car seat with a stroller frame can be ideal.

Do you need storage options?

For example, if you frequently shop or travel, chances are you would like a stroller with storage features to store your  diaper baby, your purse, groceries, or other essentials for traveling with the baby. You could always add storage bag to hang on your stroller’s handlebars, but this could cause your stroller to tip backwards.

Is the handlebar adjustable?

Sometimes, you may be very petite (Like myself – 4’10”) or you may be very tall. I did not enjoy the handlebar reaching close to below my shoulders while I was pushing the stroller and felt like a kid. One thing I wish I did have, was adjustable handlebars for my height. Ideally, you should look for handlebars that will fit your height and be comfortable as you push stroller.

Will you be using the stroller for your toddler and your newborn?

Do you already have a toddler and will have a newborn on your hand? Chances are, you may need a stroller that suits 2 or more children at once.

Does the stroller have the features you want?

  • Stroller Seat Reclines For Newborn
  • Lightweight, Easy to carry
  • Room to Hold baby Gear
  • Adjustable Handlebars
  • Brakes on Back Wheels
  • Front Wheel Locks
  • Stroller for Multiples
  • Easy to Fold
  • Easy to Maneuver
  • Canopy Size

Popular Stroller Styles:

Travel Systems (Car seat combo with stroller)

Travel systems strollers are very convenient and long lasting. This is a combination of a stroller with its own attachable car seats. The stroller part can be used as soon as the baby is at least 6 months for the most part. Many travel systems have great features such as one hand folding, swing out front trays, fully reclining seats for newborns. Most travel systems can accommodate your child until they are about 40 pounds, and some travel systems are available with weight limits of 55 pounds or more.

Umbrella Strollers

Umbrella strollers are a for they being lightweight and inexpensive models. The only thing is, they are not able to be used until the baby starts to sit due to lack of support and cushioning. Umbrella strollers can be used when your baby can sit unassisted, typically around 6 months. Umbrella strollers are great to have for those quick on the go errands when you do not need to carry many items. It is especially helpful that it folds small, making it easy to travel on airplanes.
